Luxury Car Hire Zurich Airport
The current driving rules in Switzerland are very dangerous that you stand high chances of being deported if you are found to have breached any. The rules were introduced in 2012 and adopted by the Swiss parliament after the realization that many deaths were as a result of road carnage. Since then, they have been introduced in phases.
New laws enacted
Local authorities are hopeful that these laws will help lower accident deaths by a big margin. When you are hiring a luxury car in Zurich, you need to have these rules at your fingertips. It’s your responsibility to find out about the rules but the car rental should as well give you caution when you hire. Two of the biggest crimes under these rules is driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding. The two have been marked as major causes of accidents in Switzerland thus they attract heavy punishment.
If you are caught having committed any of the two, you will stand to spend up to four years in jail. On top of that, you will have the car confiscated as well as suffer permanent loss of your driving license. For speeding, it will all depend on the zone where you are driving because different zones have different speed limits. To be safe, don’t drive on zones that you are not sure about speed limits or check before driving to be sure.
It is compulsory to drive in Zurich with the lights of your car on at night and during the day. You might be used to having the lights on at night only in your country but it’s different in Switzerland. For drink driving, there are certain groups that have a limit of zero. In case you cause an accident and you have violated this rule, the insurance you have will not be able to cover for that. The same will apply if you cause an accident while speeding or you were incapacitated.
Stricter laws
Starting this year, there are stricter rules for older drivers. They are being scrutinized keenly to ensure they have the capacity to drive safely. The good thing is that this is done right at the car rentals level. There are some rentals that will not hire you a car if you are above a certain age limit like 65. Refresher courses are also a must for drivers in Switzerland. When you are renting a luxury car in Zurich, be aware that you might be subjected to such tests by either the car rental or traffic authorities.
Long before these rules came into force, the traffic regulations in Zurich were already tight. What these rules have done is tighten that more and seal any loopholes that might help an offending driver to run away unpunished. If you are coming from another country, deportation is a real danger if you commit a traffic offense. When you are driving a hired car in the city, make sure you exercise total caution otherwise you might find yourself in deep trouble.
